Description
In all the teams I have trained, verbal skills seems to be the most difficult to grasp. The reason for this is many people view security from a threat perspective, and if someone is seen as a threat, then communications become demanding in relation to the stress the safety team volunteer may feel. The problem with this approach is it leads to conflict. People do not want to be told what to do and they will dig their heels in and make things more difficult for you if things start off on the wrong foot.
The name of the game is getting people to do what you need them to do and making it seem like it is their idea. In this video series, I teach your team members how to remain calm while dealing with difficult people, how to overcome obstinance and resistance peacefully, and to gain voluntary compliance, even when people are upset, angry or temporarily out of their minds.
The key is to not make things worse with your words or to make the situation more explosive by your demeanor. Giving people reasonable options with clear outcomes is a great service we can provide to people to help them restore equilibrium and good sense, so we can make sure the church campus is safe and everyone is served well.
